About us

«In the end, it's the curious people who change the world».

Neil deGrasse Tyson
logo astroxperiences

Who are we? This question is easy, we are you, passionate about astronomy who thought that everyone should be able to experience the wonders it hides.

We have dedicated our lives to studying the sky, portraying it and observing it from every corner of the world.

We are astronomers, physicists and astrophotographers, but, above all, we are enthusiasts, who cannot stop talking about what they are passionate about.

We have sailed under the northern lights, contemplated the sky of the southern hemisphere or touched the largest meteorite in the world in Africa, among many other things.

And we always said the same:

«Everyone would have to experience these wonders».

And the way we set out to bring this vision to life is called AstroXperiences.

In short, we are passionate people who want to share the universe with people of all ages and knowledge levels, fostering appreciation and enjoyment of astronomy as a window to the exploration and understanding of our world and beyond.

Do you want to know us more?

Juan Carlos Casado
Astrophotographer, populariser, Indiana Jones when no one is looking.
Biography

Since I was a child, I have felt a great attraction for science and technology, as well as for the stories of adventurers and expeditionaries who explore unknown places and the frontiers of our planet.

I have also followed closely the advances and successes in the space race, such as the moon landing and the construction of the International Space Station.

At the age of 16, I started making astronomical observations with a telescope and photographing the stars with a legendary Leica III-F camera, which I inherited from my father.

I think these are, without a doubt, some of my best memories.

During my high school years, I started to share my knowledge through lectures, workshops and observing sessions, and I continue to do so to this day.

In 2002, I started to collaborate with the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias in educational and informative projects, such as the creation of Didactic Units and Educational Activities.

I also participated in astronomical imaging and in training and observation aimed at the public, students and teachers.

During this time, I was a collaborator of the TAD project, the first robotic telescope of public access controllable through a web browser.

Outreach and exploration, my greatest passions

More recently, I wasco-author of the GALACTICA, project, funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and with the technological support of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC).

This project sought to obtain the largest panoramic image of our own galaxy using conventional means, with a commercial camera and a telephoto lens.

I have always been fascinated by travel, and through it I have managed to combine science and adventure.

I have collaborated in scientific-educational projects such as Shelios and “Route of the Stars”, which have carried out expeditions related to spectacular celestial events such as eclipses and northern lights over the last 20 years.

During my career, I have conducted, more than 40 expeditions around the world, from witnessing a total solar eclipse in Antarctica to observing the sky from the equator.

I have had the opportunity to observe more than 50 eclipses of different types, including 18 total solar eclipses. In addition, I have observed planetary transits, such as those of the planet Venus in 2004 and 2012, meteor showers and northern lights from places such as Greenland, Iceland and Nordic countries.

Astrophotography, National Geographic and UNESCO

In 1997, I received international recognition when National Geographic used one of my images to promote the book “Other Worlds” in the United States and Canada.

Also in that year, I got my first “Astronomy Picture of the Day” (APOD) from NASA. So far I have had 59 APODs published, being among the top five in the world.

I am the only Spanish member of TWAN (The World At Night), an organisation recognised by UNESCO, which brings together the best landscape astrophotographers in the world. I have published two books and collaborated in another, and my images and articles have appeared in newspapers, magazines, Internet and television around the world, music CDs and mobile applications.

Currently, I continue to collaborate with the IAC, with the European project EELabs, for the protection of the night sky, and with the magazine Astronomía. I am the coordinator of the Flickr image portal Starryearth and a contributor to the major celestial event broadcasting portal sky-live.tv.

David Fernández
Astronomer, author, doctor (Strange) in astrophysics.
Biography

As a good Figuerense (from Figueres in the Costa Brava, Spain) I am a bit touched by the Tramontana (strong wind from the North). But in this case in a positive sense, since it was the Tramontana that impressed me from a very early age with the clear and transparent sky that shone after a good wind.

My first memory of being enraptured by the night sky must have been when I was 6 years old.

When I was 11, I was one of the founders of what we called the J.A.A (Jóvenes Aficionados a la Astronomía / Young Astronomy Fans) which, as a member of the IAEDEN (Institución Alto Ampurdanesa para el Estudio y la Defensa de la Natura / High Ampurdanese Institution for the Study and Defence of Nature), was the seed of what in 1992 would eventually become the Figueres Astronomical Society (SAF), of which I have been a member ever since.

I am also a member of the Girona Astronomical Association (2014) and the Sabadell Astronomical Association (2002).

From student to PhD courses

My interest in astronomy, physics and cosmology led me to graduate in Physical Sciences at the UAB and to take PhD courses in astrophysics at the UB.

Professionally, I have been working in the astronomy sector for almost 20 years, either making optical configurations, providing technical advice or supplying astronomical material for research and dissemination centres.

The dream of Telescopiomania and the love of writing

  • Essay Science, philosophy and religion (Ars Brevis, Ramon Llull University) – Co-author.
  • Fractals to the Universe (Museum of Technology of the Empordà) – Lecturer.
  • History of Cosmology (CIC Cultural Institution) – Lecturer.

I have also received recognition from the Premi Josep Mª Àlvarez (IAEDEN) for two informative works on very current issues, but which were not very popular in the last century:

  • Light pollution (1994).
  • Space debris (1997).

Xavi Nieto
Nature lover, business brain, the best craft beer in the solar system.
Biography

I am passionate about the mountains, cycling and astronomy. I love exploring nature through slowbiking, as it allows me to get to know the territory in detail.

Since I was very young, I used to go to the mountains and sleep under the stars in a bivouac. On those outings I discovered the magic of the night sky and all that the immensity that the Universe gives us.

I am proud to be the founder of the Canet Adri hiking group in 2022.

The pleasure of a beer and some friends under the stars

In addition to my outdoor adventures, in my spare time I also like to brew craft beer and share it with friends. It’s a fun way to test my creativity and experiment with new flavours.

I have a high school degree in Electronics and have obtained a Master in Commercial Management and a Master in Marketing Management at EADA, Barcelona in 2009.

With more than 30 years of experience in the world of Internet and online marketing business development, I have worked in multinational telecommunications companies such as Alcatel and Cable & Wireless, as well as in companies specialised in Internet business development such as Intercom and Atraczion.

I have also successfully managed the online business of Motosprint Andorra, achieving a turnover of 3.5 million euros in just 3 years in 2010. In addition, I had the opportunity to manage Discoverydream.com (Eurekakids group), where we achieved a turnover of 2 million euros in 3 years until 2012.

Putting my knowledge at the service of astronomy

In 2012 I founded Telescopiomania, with my partner David, making it the reference astronomy shop in Spain and southern Europe.

This project has allowed me to connect with other lovers of the discipline and share my passion with them, as well as being able to contribute with all my work experience to this project.

Now, at the head of AstroXperiences with my partners, we want to make all astronomy enthusiasts enjoy a universe of activities specially designed by astronomers.

Vision

«Imagination is everything. It is the advance of the attractions that are to come in life».

Albert Einstein.
saturn

Long ago, we envisioned a place where those of us who esteem the sky could come together and realise a passion for astronomy and discovery.

But we didn’t want it to be like other places, but one that would allow us to experience it to the fullest in every way. We wanted to spread this beauty and love for the stars to everyone in the most powerful way possible:

By living it.

Our vision was a place that would bring the stars down from the sky and take astronomy out of the books, for you to see them, touch them and experience them.

Because that’s how we fall in love with things. Because that’s how we think we’ll make astronomy accessible to everyone.

Long ago, we set out to realise this vision and some people thought we were a bit crazy.

They were right, and we succeeded.

With AstroXperiences we have achieved what we imagined: to inspire you, to connect you with the wonders of space and to awaken your curiosity towards astronomy by experiencing it in person. Making you feel the same as those explorers who first marvelled when they saw the rings of Saturn or the Northern Lights.

Experiences for everyone, no matter who you are

We will never forget the excitement when we were children and looked up at the sky, wanting to know more, being amazed while we knew and observed.

We believe that we all have this same part of us that admires the immensity of the night sky and the magic of the stars.

Imagine stargazing on a clear night, accompanied by expert astronomers who will guide you through the mysteries of the universe. Well, you can take part in courses and workshops where you will learn how to use the telescope and capture stunning photographs of the starry sky, while having the time of your life.

We also organise unique trips to observe special astronomical phenomena in privileged places, to the Namibian desert, Greenland, Scandinavia or any incredible destination.

In order to make this vision come true, we are also aware that we have to start with the youngest ones and, for this reason, we believe we can also, offer what we would have loved to have had as children.

We collaborate with schools, institutions and cultural centres, to offer training and activities that bring the science of space to the youngest and to the community in general.

We are also ready to make your events unique and memorable, with proposals that combine astronomy with other cultural fields, such as music, theatre and poetry.

Get ready for astronomical adventures that will take you far, far away…, To the stars!

Mission

«Houston, this is Tranquility Base. The Eagle has landed».

Neil Armstrong.
planeta

Our mission is the same as Apollo, the Vostoks and so many others that have inspired us since we were children:

To bring the stars and planets closer until you feel like you are touching them, to let you know the wonders hidden in the sky and, above all, to let you experience them in a way that you will never forget.

We are aware of the importance of feeling things in order to understand and appreciate them. That is why, every day, we aim to create the best astronomical experiences with a clear objective in our mission:

«To make you experience many things, but never forget them».

Those that you will do with us, those that you will never stop talking about to your friends and their friends.

No matter if you want to learn about astronomy at home, explore it in person at the ends of the earth or take pictures of it to keep unforgettable memories.

Everything has a place in this house we imagine one day and, for this reason, we design the most immersive, spectacular, personalised and entertaining experiences, for all tastes and levels.

Because this way, we will make real what the scientist David Attenborough (one of our idols) once said:

«No one will protect what they don’t care about and no one will care about what they haven’t experienced».

We want you to care about astronomy, so we are on a mission to make you experience it like never before.
